NBC NATIONAL NEWS — A new study finds drinking moderate amounts of alcohol may help women lower their risk for stroke.
Researchers at Brigham and Women's Hospital studied the medical records of over 80-thousand women.
At the beginning of the study each woman had perfect health.
Researchers studied the women for the next 20 years.
Experts found those who reported light-to-moderate alcohol consumption had a nearly twenty-percent lower risk for stroke.
They say compounds in alcohol may prevent blood clots and cholesterol from sticking to the inside of arteries.
