BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — Baton Rouge has a new Fire Department 6. The ribbon cut happened earlier today, Thursday, March 8.
The new fire station on the 5000-block of Greenwell Springs Road. It replaces the station on Gus Young, which was original built in the 1950s.
Chief Ed Smith says it's the first of several new stations opening.
“A lot of the stations that we've been in the process of building over the last six years are now coming to fruition and that's a great time and opportunity for the fire department and our city to grow and out their best foot forward,” he explained.
The next opening will happen later this year with Station 13 on Sharp Road.
