BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — Former alumni and Congressman Cleo Fields was the keynote speaker at Southern University today. His speech was part of the Founder's Day Celebration activities at the school.
It’s the schools 132nd annual Founders Day.
Fields says all of his accomplishments wouldn't have been possible if it wasn't for Southern.
“I wouldn't be where I am today but for Southern University,” he said. “Southern University took me in at a young age. I had an opportunity to become Student Body President, here, but for that experience I am absolutely convinced that I had an opportunity to serve in the senate, congress. So that foundation started here at Southern University.”
Other Founder's Day activities today included a prayer service and walk through campus.
