BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — One week down and contestants are giving it their all. Working hard in the gym and cleaning up what they eat. All six contestants staying committed to losing it in Louisiana.
Even our families are getting excited about our big transformation. James Henry says his wife couldn't be happier to see him hit the gym.
"She squealed its funny, because she's an accountant which is not a normal squealing personality," said Henry.
But friends and family aren't contestants only form of support. From the beginning each contestant was pared up with a personal trainer to become part of a fitness team.
The Pink team pairs up trainer lake Johnson and contestant Rebekah Worrell.
The audio engineer weighs in at 148 pounds. She says her eating habits helped to get her to her biggest weight.
"Fast food," said Worrell. "I live with my parents and my dad does the groceries shopping and there is nothing I want to eat. I just kinda go to McDonalds or Jack In The Box."
The orange team pairs firefighter James Newman with trainer Joey Juneau. James weighs in at 256 pounds. James says one of the biggest changes for him putting down the sweet tea.
"Green tea has been a decent substitute for it," said Newman. "It's just not the same."
Then there is the red team: journalist Kris Cusanza and trainer Carlos Rachel. Kris weighted in at 236 pounds. Kris works at night so diet options are slim. Trying to watch what you eat became a big part of her weight loss challenge.
"As an Italian the hardest thing for me to give up is going to be the pastas the pizzas all those good Italian dishes," said Cusanza.
Stay at home mom Anita Katzman wants to lose weight before her 40th birthday. That's why she paired up with trainer Justin Kirk. Anita began her journey at 219 pounds.
"I have a 3 year old son, and we're in the process of adopting a new born from Louisiana," said Katzman. "So, we are really excited about that. So, i'm doing this for my family too."
James Henry and trainer Erik Duncan make up the green team. James Henry weighed 258 pounds. The engineer says his he's losing weight to prepare for having kids. He says the moment that sparked his journey was the loss of his father due in part to weight problems.
"That terrifies me, because it doesn't seem like 36 is young to lose your father," said Henry, "But, when I think about how hard it was I don't want to put my children through that. "
Last but not least the blue team: Carole Walker and her trainer Greg Liem. She weighs in at 287 pounds.
" I have some medical issues and I'm seeing a patterns with my family," said Walker. "I recently lost my mom at age 60. Many of her heath issues were from her being over weight. I just turned forty last March, and I'm headed towards 41. So, I want to live well beyond sixty."
Up next contestants will take part in a fitness test. The trainers will push us to our limits to see just how fit we really are.
