Baton Rouge, La — State Fire Marshal H. “Butch” Browning and Department of Agriculture and Forestry Commissioner Mike Strain, in partnership with the Walk of Honor Foundation, announced today that the 2012 Louisiana Fallen Firefighter Memorial will be held on Saturday, March 10. The ceremony will begin at 10:30 a.m. and last 90 minutes.
The Memorial is located at 8181 Independence Blvd. in Baton Rouge. The event will be attended by representatives from various fire departments, fire service organizations and families of those firefighters who have died in the line of duty. The event will be emceed by Scott Rogers of the Around Town TV Show. A luncheon will be held immediately following the ceremony. The event and luncheon are free and open to the public.
This year’s Louisiana Fallen Firefighters’ Memorial ceremony will honor seven (7) firefighters who died in the line of duty. Their names will be added to the ninety-seven (97) other firefighters memorialized on the Wall of Honor.
“We owe a great deal to those who selflessly put themselves in harm’s way every day to protect us. This ceremony is an opportunity for the public to come and join the families and friends of those who paid the highest price and to let them know that they will never be forgotten.” Browning said. “This beautiful memorial is a place of reverence; a place where you can walk among the names of giants.”
