St. Martin Parish, La — The National Weather Service out of Lake Charles, will be hosting a free SKYWARN® training on March 8, 2012 to prepare individuals in the community to become severe weather ‘STORM SPOTTERS.”
Trained “STORM SPOTTERS” can identify and explain weather conditions to weather service professionals and by doing so, enhance the severe weather warning system.
SKYWARN is a voluntary program and covers the basics of thunderstorm development, fundamentals of storm structure, identifying potential severe weather features, information to report, how to report information, and basic severe weather safety.
Anyone who is interested in learning how to assist with reporting severe weather to St. Martin OHSEP and the National Weather Service in Lake Charles should attend this training on March 8, 2012 at the St. Martin Parish Fire Training Center located at 1035-A Ruth Bridge Hwy. Breaux Bridge, LA. The training will begin at 6:00 p.m. and last until 8:00 p.m.
