New Orleans, La — The Louisiana Tax Free Shopping Program (LTFS) will dedicate on Tuesday, March 6, 2012, the Eugene Schreiber Louisiana Tax Free Shopping Refund Center in the Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport.
Eugene Schreiber was a founding LTFS board member and served as chairman from its inception in 1988. He served for 32 years as managing director of the World Trade Center of New Orleans before his retirement in 2010. He died on July 20, 2011.
Under Schreiber’s direction from 1979 to 2010, the World Trade Center organized more than 1,500 seminars, conferences, country briefings, inbound and outbound trade missions, and other international trade programs in support of Louisiana's export-import growth, port activity, and economic development.
The new LTFS refund center is part of the renovation of the main ticket lobby at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport. The new location of the refund center moves it closer to concourses C and D, from which most international flights take off.
The Louisiana Tax Free Shopping Program allows international visitors to Louisiana to make tax-free purchases at more than 900 participating retailers throughout the state. LTFS refund centers like the one in the New Orleans airport provide cash refunds of sales taxes on eligible purchases.
