BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — In a statement released by First Lady Supriya Jindal, she expresses her reaction to Lara Bush’s announcement of the 2012 Foundation for America’s Libraries Gulf Coast Recovery Grants.
“The Governor and I greatly appreciate former First Lady Laura W. Bush’s generous contributions to education in Louisiana. Through the Laura W. bush Foundation for America’s Libraries, Mrs. Bush created the Gulf Coast school Library Recovery Initiative to aid hurricane-affected school libraries.
"Since the initiative’s inception in 2006, the foundation has donated over 6.3 million in grants to rebuild book collections in over 116 Gulf coast school libraries, 92 of which are in Louisiana. The Governor and I, along with the people of Louisiana, sincerely thank Mrs. Bush and her foundation for helping to strengthen education here in our Great State.”
The Foundation is an organization created to help school libraries extend their collections so that children across the country can access books about science, history, drama or classic literature, or any other topic that they choose to provide for them.
