NBC News — An independent report released thursday blames the scale of the Fukushima nuclear disaster on safety negligence by the government and plant operator. After the quake and tsunami struck on March 11th last year, three reactors melted down at the Fukushima Daiichi plant causing a radiation leak which forced tens of thousands to leave their homes inside a mandatory evacuation zone close to the plant.
The Japanese government and plant operators have all faced criticism, both for their confused response to the disaster and for failing to reveal the extent of the crisis. The report's findings revealed a culture of negligence on nuclear safety for the last two decades.
