LAFAYETTE, LA (NBC33) — THIS IS AN NBC33 NEWS UPDATE: The Lafayette Police Department says that after re-questioning the 9-year-old child, they discovered that he fabricated the story of the attempted abduction.
ORIGINAL STORY: The Lafayette Police Department is investigating an attempted child abduction that happened this morning as the boy was waiting for his school bus.
Officials say the incident happened at around 4:40 a.m. at the intersection of Pearl Street and Jolivet Street in Lafayette.
We’re told a 9-year-old boy was waiting at his bus stop when a black Ford 4-door vehicle drove up next to him. The child claims that three black males were in the vehicle and one jumped out and hit him in the stomach.
The child alleges that he was able to fight off the men and run home.
The suspect who exited the vehicle is described as a black male in his 20”, approximately 5’6” tall, thin build and dressed all in black. The front passenger of the vehicle was a black male with dreads containing red tips, wearing all black. The driver was a black male wearing all black and a ski mask. The suspect’s vehicle was a black Ford 4-door with tinted rear windows and large chrome wheels. The partial license number is believed to be “???X541”.
Detectives with the Lafayette Police Department are encouraging anyone with information about the crime or the identity of the suspects to call the Police Department or Crime Stoppers at (337) 232-TIPS.
