An Oregon father and his seven children are safe after search and rescue crews located them stuck in the snow in the Cascade Mountains on Sunday.
Mark Shaver, 42, of Eagle Creek and his children, ages three to fourteen, were reported missing Saturday after they failed to return home from a mid-week camping trip.
Shaver’s wife told Marion County deputies that her husband often camped with the children, is an avid backpacker and hiker and the family was well prepared for the trip.
Search and rescue crews began looking for the family on Saturday evening and resumed their search on Sunday morning.
The group was located by snowmobilers just before 7:30 a.m. Sunday.
According to deputies on scene, the family was in good condition but their Astro van was stuck in at least sixteen inches of snow and they were unable to drive out of the area.
