LAPLACE, LA — On Monday, Feb. 27, Louisiana State Police Troop B and the LaPlace Volunteer Fire Department will be hosting a child safety seat inspection station in St. John the Baptist Parish. The inspection event will take place from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm at the LaPlace Volunteer Fire Department located at 521 Hemlock Street, LaPlace, LA.
Appointments are not required.
This service is provided free of charge to parents and caregivers wishing to have their child restraints inspected and installed properly by certified child safety technicians.
Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for children. Louisiana State Law requires the driver of a motor vehicle to ensure that every child under the age of thirteen is properly restrained, regardless of seating position. Motor vehicle crashes are unexpected events, however, through the proper use of child safety seats and seatbelts, occupants can significantly reduce their chance of injury and/or death in the event of a crash.
An alarming 96 percent of child safety seats are used improperly. Citizens are urged to visit the LaPlace Volunteer Fire Department on Monday, Feb. 27, 2012 to ensure the proper use and installation of child restraints based on the child’s age and weight.
