NBC News — Thousands of backers of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez showed their support thursday after he announced he would fly to Cuba for more cancer surgery. The procedure will be performed to remove a lesion in the same pelvic area where a baseball sized tumor was found last year. Chavez will fly to Cuba friday to undergo the operation.
This will be his third surgery in Havana since last year. Although he had said he was cured, the latest revelation has thrown doubt on his re-election campaign. The 57 year old has vowed to beat any possible cancer.
