BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — The inspiration behind last year's hit movie "The Help" was at LSU tonight.
Susan Tucker is portrayed by the character "Skeeter" in the oscar-nominated movie!
She sat-in for a screening of the movie inside the Cox Center, and took part in a panel discussion afterwards.
Tucker says the movie and book were inspired by her earlier work, titled "Telling Memories Among Southern Women."
"If you look back at the span of life, you're glad when someone takes up work behind you," said Tucker. "It's a really important conversation in America about race. I'm glad to be part of that conversation. Really glad."
Tucker studied domestic workers in the early seventies all over the gulf south. She now works at Tulane University.
