BATON ROUGE,LA (NBC33) —
Some local middle school ladies get a chance to learn math and science in a fun way this morning.
It's all part of ExxonMobil Baton Rouge 8th annual introduce girls to engineering day.
Students from 8 area middle schools came together to build leaning towers of pasta.
Shanna Noble with ExxonMobil says today's fun serves a bigger purpose.
"It's always been a challenge historically to get girls interested in math and science," said Noble. "I think by doing activities such as this that it really gets them thinking and interested in math and science. And more and more we see are graduating with engineering degrees and math degrees so we are more excited about that."
Noble says getting more girls to participate in math and science fields will bring more diversity to the work force.
