LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) — LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - A dark sky and calm waters mixed with a lot of oohs and ahhs set the stage for the Lighted Boat Parade. While Southwest Louisiana is known for letting the good times roll this parade is a little different.
"Because others have floats and this one has boats," said Amber Miller.
Unique to Lake Charles the boat parade is a family fun Mardi Gras event - a grand finale for a whole day of excitement.
"It's been really fun today. The Children's Parade was amazing. The kids had a blast. We had a krewe full day," said Danika Johnson.
"We've been the last three years. It's nice and really good to get out. We take the kids out - they enjoy it," said Lance Benoit.
What's not to enjoy? Lights, boats and of course trinkets with revelers getting them any way they can. No one said it was going to be easy.
"It's a little harder because you are trying not to fall in water at the same time you're trying to get the beads. But I managed to get some," said Clayton Spears.
As the tides roll in so does the good times as the Mardi Gras tradition continues on the Lakefront.
