East Baton Rouge, La (NBC33) — The election for East Baton Rouge Mayor-President isn't until later this year, but one man says he's running and is ready to make a change.
James Mayer is the President of Mayer Clothiers on South Sherwood.
He's throwing his name into the race because he says Baton Rouge could do a lot better than it's doing.
Mayer says there are lots of opportunities to make the Capitol City the best city in the nation, but says Mayor Holden just hasn't capitalized on that.
“I do not feel that Baton Rouge has accomplished 40 percent of what it should accomplish,” stated Mayer. “I think this city, with all its dynamics - two universities, a junior college, the Mississippi River, the chemical industry - that this is the most under-visioned community in America. I think that what Baton Rouge should be and what it is are just at opposite ends of the plank.”
The incumbent Mayor-President Kip Holden says he's planning to run again.
Mayor Pro-Tem Mike Walker is also rumored to be running, but hasn't made an official announcement.
