Baton Rouge, La (NBC33) — An expansion is underway at the Baton Rouge Airport.
Ground was broken today for the expansion of the airport rotunda. It's a project that's been in the works for months.
The expansion means there will be more space for people waiting to pick up loved ones.
Right now, things are pretty cramped in that part of the airport.
Jim Ellis with the BTR Airport Commission stated, “We had a bottleneck when you came up the escalator where security was - that's going to be taken care of. The nice thing is at this time when all you hear are negative news stories about governmental agencies, this is being paid for with self-generated funds. There’s no tax dollars coming out of the city-parish budget.”
The project cost about $11 million and is expected to be finished in 2013.
