NBC NATIONAL NEWS —
The big names in music will converge on Los Angeles tomorrow for the Grammy
Awards. While a variety of performers will be honored, one of them is expected
to dominate the major categories.
British singer Adele will not win every award at the Grammys Sunday night, but it might just seem that way.
Adele's up for 6 awards, including record, song and album of the year. All for tunes from "21," an album that's sold more than $6.5 million copies, easily topping the industry last year.
Billboard Magazine's Editorial Director Bill Werde adds that Adele's popularity went beyond her music.
"When you look down the hot 100, it seems like a pre-requisite is looking a like supermodel,” he notes. “Adele feels like an everyman. She feels like one of us."
He expects Adele to sweep the night's three major awards, but cautions, with Grammy voters, you never know.
Any drama about how many awards Adele wins could be overshadowed when the 23-year-old takes the Grammy stage, which will be her first performance since vocal cord surgery in November.
