William Jefferson will not have to head to jail anytime soon.
A judge ruled that the former Louisiana Congressman can remain free on bond while he appeals his conviction.
The ruling makes it likely that Jefferson will not serve any prison time for at least a year.
The judge said that the legal questions surrounding Jefferson's conviction are unsettled enough, that an appeals court could decide to overturn the convictions.
Last week, he was sentenced to 13 years in prison for accepting bribes.
