Baton Rouge, La (NBC33) — The Mardi Gras season is here, and that means lots of celebration, but it also means that state police are looking out for drunk drivers.
Police all across the state will be on extra patrols making sure everyone is safe on the roads this carnival season.
The extra patrol will be paid for with grant money, and one state trooper says it's worth every penny.
"The key is to not drink and drive, to not get in a vehicle with an impaired driver,” stated Trooper Russell Graham. “Wear your seat belt every time. You make the right decisions before you get into a car and you have a much better chance at, not only survival, but avoiding a collision."
State and local law enforcement will also be looking for speeders, texters, and those not wearing a seatbelt.
