BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — THIS IS AN NBC 33 NEWS UPDATE: The 16-year-old accused of shooting a Baton Rouge Metro councilman's son in the chest has pleaded not guilty.
The teen is charged with attempted first degree murder and three counts of armed robbery.
BRPD say the teen shot Chandler Loupe's son in the chest during a drug deal on Mary Lou Drive last weekend.
The teen's trial is set for March 15 in juvenile court.
District Attorney Hillar Moore says there's no decision on whether that 16-year-old will be tried as an adult.
THIS IS AN NBC33 NEWS UPDATE (2/8/12): Our NBC33 crew at Juvenile Court says the case against the teen thought to have shot at Council member Chandler Loupe's son will move forward. The juvenile is being held on $75,000 bond.
ORIGINAL STORY: Two suspects have been arrested in connection to the shooting of Thomas Loupe, the now 16-year old son of Councilman Chandler Loupe.
The shooting happened on Friday, Feb. 3 just before 6:00 p.m. in the 1600 block of Mary Lou. Loupe was one of three teens involved in the incident.
The Baton Rouge Police Department investigated the scene and believes the teens may have been involved in illegal activity, which resulted in the shoting. That’s when Thomas Loupe was shot in the chest.
Thomas was taken to a local hospital, where he spent his 16th birthday on Sunday, Feb. 5.
Since the shooting BRPD has made two arrests. The first was an unidentified 16-year old, who is facing a public hearing in Juvenile Court at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 8.
The second arrest was made on Tuesday, Feb. 7 in the evening. Police booked Terrance Thornton, 18, of Baton Rouge into the Parish Prison. He’s now facing charges of three counts of Attempted Armed Robbery, one count of Attempted First Degree Murder, and Possession of Marijuana for having a marijuana cigarette when he was arrested.
Police said another 17-year old was with the teens at the time of the incident, but has not been charged at this time.
The investigation into the shooting is still ongoing and Police say more arrests are possible.
