NBC NATIONAL NEWS — A federal temporary housing program for victims of Hurricanes Ike and Gustav ends today.
The program housed close to 20,000 families since the 2008 storms, primarily those from Texas and southern Louisiana.
This year, 3,500 households are enrolled in the program.
U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development will provide $28 million to help these families with permanent housing assistance through HUD's Housing Choice Voucher program.
