Baton Rouge, La (NBC33) —
Senator Mary Landrieu was talking education reform in the state, and she's on board with Governor Jindal's plan.
She says the best teachers need to be in the right classrooms. Landrieu also wants the governor to focus replacing ineffective schools with public charter schools.
Landrieu says education reform is important just not in the short term, but down the road as well.
"Have you ever walked through a juvenile detention center, where there's barbed wire and you look in and you see children who are 12 and 13 years old? I have - it is not a place for children to be,” said Landrieu. “I don't know why we’re so afraid. I don't know why we say ‘that won’t work’ we should try something, because it’s likely absolutely better than the results we're getting."
