LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) — Courtney Priola was crowned after competing against six other young ladies.
Courntey is a Lacassine-native and attends McNeese State University majoring in nursing. She says she always wanted to wear the crown and represent Southwest Louisiana.
Priola was also voted miss congeniality.
"It was very exciting,” Priola told KPLC, NBC News in Lake Charles. “I wasn't expecting it. It was very, very unexpected. “It's something I've been wanting. My family was very excited and my friends were also there to support me as well.
“Mardi Gras is such a great organization known world-wide,” she added. “Many people are aware of it. They want to come here and see what Mardi Gras is like in Southwest Louisiana. And to be able to represent something like that is a huge honor."
She'll hold the Miss Mardi Gras title for one year and represent Southwest Louisiana in Washington DC for Mardi Gras festivities there.
