THIS IS AN NBC33 NEWS UPDATE: We just received this statement from the New Orleans Police Department: "Commander Paul Noel of the sex crimes unit has reviewed the video. Should they decide to, we will perform a thorough investigation."
ORIGINAL STORY: The New Orleans Police Department is investigating an assault situation that happened on Bourbon Street after the BCS National Championship. A YouTube video surfaced last week showing an Alabama fan sexually assaulting an incapacitated LSU fan at the Krystal restaurant.
In the video, the LSU fan is clearly asleep with his head on a table when a large group of Crimson Tide fans surround him. They start mocking the man, and then they start putting things on and around his head while asking if he’s dead. No one at the restaurant stops this from happening.
Towards the end of the video, an Alabama fan takes his genitals out and sticks them in the LSU fan’s face. The LSU fan doesn’t respond.
The video brought in more than 10,000 views before the user removed it Sunday afternoon. A popular sports blog, Deadspin, reported on the video before it was pulled.
Police say a victim has not come forward, but if he chooses to press charges, the Alabama fan could face sexual battery.
A spokesperson from the University of Alabama released the following statement: “UA hopes that our fans will act with class and dignity and we are disappointed when they don't. We are aware of the video, we will check into it and we will appropriately deal with any student who might have been involved.”
