Livingston Parish, La (NBC33) — Some Livingston Parish residents are upset over a check made out to the new parish president's old place of work; however, Layton Ricks said he was just following orders.
Ricks, who took office Monday, wrote a $453,000 check to Alvin Fairburn and Associates for the work they did on the Livingston Parish Road Project in 2010.
Ricks says the parish council had approved the payment months ago, but the company had yet to be paid.
"I knew I would take some heat, but it was the right thing to do, and it was done for the right reasons,” stated Ricks. “The only way you can ever move forward is to get rid of the past and let it go. This cleared that up. It's done."
Ricks says he won't play favorites just because he used to work for a company contracted by the parish. Instead, he plans to be just as fair to other contractors moving forward.
