Baton Rouge, La (NBC33) — An LSU Tiger mom was among the small group that welcome the LSU Tigers home this afternoon after the BCS game.
Sam Montgomery's family was out on the street as the busses rolled in to show their support.
Debra Montgomery says she's so proud of her sophomore defensive end.
He's the first person from his hometown in South Carolina to play in a BCS National Championship Game.
Debra talked to Sam right after the game, and said she tried to boost him up after a disappointing defeat.
"They really wanted to win and he really wanted to make everybody at home proud of him,” stated the proud mother. “Not winning, he sort of feels like he let them down, but I let him know (to) leave it on the field."
She said she's taking No. 99 home to South Carolina for a little R&R, where he'll spend time with friends and family.
