A historic structure came tumbling down Wednesday. The Amite River Bridge was successfully demolished to make room for a new one.
Chicago Explosives, the company hired to perform the demolition says everything went just as planned.
The company’s president says the job took about 120 pounds of explosives.
"Because of the congestion on this hwy we just wanted a one time shot to get it down at once " says Patrick Carney.
Traffic on the span of Highway 190 was shut down for hours. Drivers were let back on as soon as the scene was safe.
