BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — Bad news at the pump as we start 2012; AAA reports that prices could be at record levels as the year goes on.
According to the report, 2012 has seen the highest gas prices ever to start the year. Though the agency is expecting gas prices to level out as the month goes on, they're expecting a big spike in the next few months.
AAA says prices in some spots could top $4.25 a gallon.
NBC33 News talked with Baton Rouge drivers to see if the high gas prices will impact their driving habits.
“It'll definitely hit me hard financially,” Katie Shirah, Baton Rouge driver, said. “I drive an hour and a half back and forth to work every day.”
“I’ll be going 25 percent less driving,” Vicki McCoy, adds.
“Bundling errands together things like that for the most part we're still going to get out and do what we need to do,” Elvin Elsey, another Baton Rouge driver, explained.
According to AAA the average price per gallon here in Louisiana is $3.20. That's compared to $3.13 a week ago and two ninety-five this same time last year.
The average price nationwide today is $3.32.
