A group of mass communications students at LSU have entered a national competition and will be campaigning for the U.S. Census bureau the entire month of February.
Team "Repre-Census'” primary goal is to get more college students "in the know" about the importance of filling out a U.S. Census form.
They say because it only comes around every ten years most students assume their parents can fill out the forms for them—an assumption Repre-census team member Jennie Armstrong says can end up costing the Capital City trillions over the next ten years.
"Students cover 22% of Baton Rouge's population so that's a really big portion of our community. If the students aren't being counted it's a really big loss in funding” says Armstrong.
The team says for every student in the Red Stick choosing not to complete a census it could mean a loss of $3000 for the community.
