NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Xavier and New York universities have
received a $3 million National Science Foundation grant designed to
steer more minority-group members into research.
The grant from the foundation's Partnerships for Research and
Education in Materials program is focused on materials science, an
interdisciplinary field that studies the properties of matter and
their applications. The money will underwrite a research program in
this field at Xavier as part of the chemistry program.
Collaborating with Xavier will be NYU's Materials Research
Science and Engineering Center.
