Civil rights organizations are demanding that a Louisiana Justice of the Peace step down after refusing to marry an interracial couple.
Earlier this month, Keith Bardwell, a Justice of the Peace in Tangipahoa Parish, refused to issue a marriage license to Beth Humphrey and Terence Mckay.
According to Bardwell, he declined to marry them because he was afraid that their children might suffer.
Mckay and Humphrey were eventually married by another Justice of the Peace, but the newlyweds are now considering whether they should take legal action against Bardwell.
