It's new, but not completely. The new song from Michael Jackson that was released earlier this week is one that's been heard before, but by a different singer more than a decade ago. A Latin singer known as 'Sa-Fire' had recorded the same song 18 years ago, when it was known as "I Never Heard".
"They're realized it's a mistake. They're realized it's my song," says singer-songwriter Paul Anka. Singer songwriter Paul Anka told the entertainment website TMZ that he and jackson had co-written the song in 1983.
It's a claim the Jackson estate quickly acknowledged, so now Anka will share in the song's royalties. "I'm getting 50 percent of the whole project, which is fair, I'm not going to hold them up," adds Anka. And observers doubt the dueling versions of the song will diminish the appetite among Jackson's fans.
"This is a new performance. The songs are pretty different. I think fans will be all over it," says Rob Levine of Billboard Magazine. "This Is It" will be part of a two-disc album released in conjunction with a film of the same name. It spotlights the final rehearsals for Jackson's comeback concerts in London.
