WATERPROOF, La. (AP) - The Waterproof Board of Aldermen has voted to fire the town's embattled police chief, Miles Jenkins. At a town meeting Tuesday night, the board unanimously approved the termination of Jenkins amid accusations that he abused the powers of his office.
On Saturday, the Tensas Parish Sheriff's Office asked state police to investigate Jenkins on allegations he stopped a woman outside the department's jurisdiction after she issued a complaint against him.
In February, a grand jury indicted Jenkins and Waterproof Mayor Bobby Higginbotham on numerous corruption charges. Alderwoman Edna Cooper tells The News-Star of Monroe on Wednesday the town has notified several people of the vacancy.
