NBC News — China thursday urged peace and stability in a vital shipping lane off the coast of Iran. The comment from the country's Foreign Ministry comes a day after Iran threatened to blockade the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
The Foreign Ministry's terse, one sentence public response to Tehran's threats over the world's most important oil route reflects China's sensitivities about its close business links with Iran. A Foreign Ministry spokesman said quote, "China hopes that peace and stability can be maintained in the strait," end quote.
