NBC NATIONAL NEWS — She is a modern miracle. Melinda Star Guido, is now three and a half months old and weighs four pounds.
It is a miracle because in August, Melinda was born premature at 24 weeks and weighed little more than a half pound.
At 9 and half ounces she is one of the smallest babies ever born.
Now, her doctors in Los Angeles, California say she may be able to go home around the New Year.
Melinda was born in August by cesarean section and spent the first months of her life in an incubator hooked to a breathing machine.
A feeding tube provided her nutrition while her parents never gave up hope.
Just last month little Melinda underwent surgery to close an artery that usually seals after birth.
Her mother was finally allowed to hold her for the first time following the surgery.
Now it will be home for the New Year for this young family and their miracle baby.
