BAKER, LA (NBC33) — Baker Police are trying their hand at a successful East Baton Rouge Parish program. They'll launch their first ever Gas for Guns collection this Saturday, Dec. 17.
Police are giving out up to $300 in gas coupons. That's in return for unsecured firearms, like handguns and assault rifles.
Officials say this is a safe way to get rid of firearms that are no longer wanted. The goal is to make the streets of Baker safer.
"We’ll receive all of them with no questions asked,” Chief Mike Knapps, Baker Police Department, explained. “You bring the gun. We secure it. You get your gas card and you're on your way. We don't exchange any information or anything like that."
The program will run from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Miracle Place Church on Main Street in Baker.
