Louisiana (NBC33) — Ground has been broken on a project widening 1-12.
The project, which costs more than $20 million, will widen the interstate between Juban Road and Walker. It's set to be completed by the middle of 2013.
Governor Jindal was on hand for the groundbreaking; he says the money saved in this project will be used for even more expansion down the road.
"The great news is - in addition to the six lanes - because the project came in under bid, we were able to invest those remaining dollars, over $14 million, to go even further east," said Jindal.
More than 40,000 cars are estimated to use that stretch of road every day.
