BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — The Baton Rouge Police Department released the following statement just before 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 14.
“A BRPD spokesman was quoted as saying that accused rape suspect Allan Hernandez had been “cleared by DNA” from possibly being involved in an attack on a woman on Lee Drive on Nov. 22, 2011. That statement was not accurate.
“In reality, there is insufficient evidence at this time, DNA or otherwise, to either link Hernandez to that crime or to clear him. He remains a potential suspect in that case, which is still under investigation.
“The erroneous statement was made due to a miscommunication between an investigator and the spokesman. We sincerely apologize for this occurrence.”
