BATON ROUGE, La (NBC 33) — It's called the Baton Rouge Transit Coalition. The goal of the organization is to get a dedicated funding source for the financially strapped transit system. Their belief is that Baton Rouge can't thrive without a great public transportation system, "It's about recognizing the economic impact of public transportation. It's about recognizing the enhanced quality of life that a quality public transportation system adds. It's about recognizing that we can't ever really be a great city without a quality transit system," says B.R.T.C. member Raymond Jetson.
Right now, CATS is in more than $2 million hole. They could go out of business by the middle of next year if a funding source isn't found.
