BATON ROUGE, La (NBC33) — Two local schools are cancelling classes January 9th when the Tigers play for the national title. Catholic High and St. Joseph's Academy alerted parents on that decision Tuesday. The schools sent out an email claiming this is the best decision for students and parents.
Also both schools will bump up the first bell a little later the day after the BCS game on Tuesday. The parents that pay for those private schools are fine with the decision.
"When you have a school like Catholic High, they're trying to serve their whole community which is the parents and the students," says Catholic High dad, Russel Primeaux.
"We are so excited! It enables us as a family to go down and enjoy the National Championship where LSU is going to beat Alabama," adds Catholic High mom, Kema Bueche.
School leaders say they have a little extra leeway when it comes to giving students a day off. They have more days built into their schedule than the state actually requires.
