Louisiana (NBC33) — Senator David Vitter is also working with Senator Mary Landrieu on promoting the safety of Louisiana Seafood.
Vitter is urging the FDA to publicly and vigorously declare that Gulf seafood is safe to eat, now more than a year since the oil spill.
This is information that Louisiana natives have already know for the most part, but Vitter says the Gulf's image still struggles in many markets up north.
"A lot of people in other markets have unfounded concerns and restaurants react to that and started buying seafood elsewhere, oversees,” stated Vitter. “We need to get word out that Gulf seafood is safe."
Vitter says the FDA has a large bully pulpit that can best inform the nation of the safety of Gulf seafood.
Not only are both Louisiana senators on board with the idea, but all U.S. senators from the Gulf States have signed on.
