A 5-year-old Arizona girl is going to be OK after a scary fall onto a glass table. The table broke and shards of the glass pierced her torso. Dr. David Rosenberg of Arizona Children's Center at MMC says "what we're seeing here is the shard of glass which is fairly large, going through the lung into the liver."
These incredible pictures show just how lucky little Princess Pichardo really is. Dr. Rosenberg says "if this glass had gone this way, it would have quite possibly perforated her heart." The girl's father, Omar Ramirez, said "we were in the kitchen and we heard a noise, when we got in the room she was in the middle of the glass."
While Omar Ramirez and his wife were preparing dinner, their 5-year-old daughter Princess was playing alone in the bedroom. Omar says "we don't know if she was jumping on the bed or if she was standing on the table." Dr. Rosenberg says "she fell, shattering a glass tabletop, a portion of that tabletop went between her ribs."
A situation that for Omar, was turning into a nightmare. Omar says "when i saw the injury it was big, my wife told me she removed a piece of glass but we didn't know if she had more glass in her body." Princess is expected to make a full recovery, her parents, can breathe a sigh of relief. Omar says "She is doing good, the doctors say she is strong. We are very lucky."
Princess will have to stay in the hospital for a few more days but says she's ready to get back to school.
