Baton Rouge, La (NBC33) — Southern students will soon get a chance to get their degrees from the comfort of their home.
The Southern University System is planning on starting online classes in January. Some of those classes being offered include criminal justice and early childhood education.
Southern System President Ronald Mason says it's a step toward getting Southern back on the right financial track.
"It's a good sign. It's a positive step,” stated Mason. “We have some work to do internally in order to meet the demand, but I think once we get that done as part of the restructuring overall, I think it'll be a real winner for Southern."
Mason says that over the next four years, the online classes should bring in $14 million.
