Louisiana (NBC33) — It won't be long before you know whether or not you have a share in more than $550 million in unclaimed property.
This property includes everything from uncashed payroll checks to unreturned utility security deposits.
The program's been run by Treasurer John Kennedy's office for years, and they say this year, more than half a million people have money waiting on them, and there’s no deadline to claim it.
“This property - this lost money - will never become the property of the state,” stated Kennedy. “It will always belong to you. You can claim it on behalf of yourself or you can claim it as an heir.”
The names in Baton Rouge are expected to be released Thursday; NBC33 will have a link to the site as soon as the names are revealed.
