GRAY, LA — Louisiana State Police Troop C investigated a fatal crash last night in Lafourche Parish on Bayou Blue Bypass Road shortly after 6:00 pm. The crash, involving two vehicles, claimed one life and left two people injured.
Troopers’ investigation revealed that Steven Guidry, 48, of Chauvin was driving a 1994 Ford Aspire east on Bayou Blue Bypass Road just west of Bobcat Lane when he entered a left-hand curve. Guidry failed to negotiate the curve, crossed the center-line into the westbound lane, and struck a westbound 2006 Ford pickup.
Troopers believe Guidry’s headlights were not activated prior to the crash. Guidry was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Lafourche Parish Coroner’s Office.
Guidry’s passenger, Gena Rumore, 49, of Montegut, was transported to a local hospital with non life-threatening injuries. The driver of the pickup, John Arnold, 37, of Gray, sustained minor injuries and refused treatment.
Arnold submitted a breath sample to Troopers that showed no signs of detectable alcohol in his system. The crash remains under investigation.
Historically, Troopers have seen an increase in fatal and serious-injury crashes at this time and would like to remind motorist to exercise patience and good judgment when driving this holiday season. Distracted and impaired drivers cause crashes at a higher rate during the holidays.
Troopers urge motorists to pay attention to the task of driving while they are behind the wheel, to never get behind the wheel impaired, and to never get into a vehicle with an impaired driver. Troopers will be out on the highways through the end of the year with additional aggressive patrols to combat impaired, distracted, and aggressive driving. They will also be aggressively enforcing the state’s seat belt law. The public can assist law enforcement in ensuring public safety by not allowing impaired drivers on our roadways and by reporting hazardous conditions and impaired, aggressive, or distracted drivers. The easiest way to report this is to dial *LSP (*577) from a cellular phone.
