WHITE CASTLE, LA (NBC33) — In White Castle, volunteers spent the morning along side the newly appointed major making sure everyone had a hot meal.
Mayor Gerald Williams says he has much to be thankful for, and he wanted to give back to his community. Today he helped volunteers feed the homeless and elderly in the community.
Folks were welcome to stop by and enjoy the feast, and those who could not get there, had a turkey dinner delivered.
"This is very important. It’s teaching us to give back and it’s my way to show support,” Mayor Williams explained. “They showed me support, so this is my way of showing them support back."
Mayor Williams says this is the first event of its kind since he took office in January 2011, but he wants to do it every Thanksgiving.
