NBC NATIONAL NEWS — The nationwide petition to quote "Save Thanksgiving" landed at Target's corporate offices in Minneapolis Monday.
The petition filled with nearly 200-thousand signatures from employees who don't want to be at work before midnight Friday and some customers agree.
Employees say they deserve the entire day of Thanksgiving off.But a Target spokesperson says the company is just trying to give customers what they want.
Target Employee Seth Coleman said,"A full holiday with family is not just for the elite of this nation. All Americans should be able to break bread with loved ones and get a good nights rest on Thanksgiving."
Target spokesperson Anahita Cameron said, "It is imperative that we are competitive. Our guests have expressed that they prefer to kickoff their holiday shopping experience right after the holiday celebrations rather than getting up in the middle of the night."
The Target petition has sparked a similar campaign against electronics giant Best Buy.
