Baton Rouge, La (NBC33) — All day Saturday residents got free gas for turning in old guns to authorities.
It's the second annual Gas for Guns initiative!
Baton Rouge Police along with the EBR sheriff's office collected old guns brought in by residents, and gave them gas certificates.
Local authorities tell NBC 33 that it's all to help keep you safe.
"There's a lot of guns out there, it has been stressed before, we're not taking legal guns from citizens, we're just trying to, for that element that has guns that could potentially be used in crimes, we want those guns off the street."-Lt. David Shultz, BRPD, said.
